Which Packet: Full Installation or Patch?

There are two types of download packets available to install your target SupePro Designer® release:

  • Full Installation (approx. 455MB)
  • Patch (approx. 30 MB)

Clearly there's a significant difference in size (by a factor of 10).
The full installation packet includes (in compressed format) all the files that are normally delivered on an installation CD and when executed, it carry out a full installation of the software.
The full installation will:

  • copy the program and support files, documentation, example files
  • install the appropriate MS-Access driver to communicate with .accdb and .mdb files
  • will register the necessary databases (as ODBC sources)
  • install the necessary drivers for your dongle to work (if required)
  • create shortcuts for your program and its documentation
  • register the 'Designer' COM library so that VBA scripts and C# code request COM service calls

The patch packet contains only the runtime executables (.exe and .dll files in compressed format) and when executed it will expand and simply copy those files to the folder where your software currently is installed (overwriting the previous release). Clearly, the patch installation is NOT a substiture for a full installation and it expects a previous release of the software to already be installed on the target PC. Since the support files (incl. the databases) change significantly from one major version to the next, the patch installation cannot be applied to upgrade from one major version to another.

When Can I Use the Patch Installation?

You can use the patch installation only if you are upgrading from one build/special build number to another (later) number in the same major version family and you do not need any of the latest additions to the COM library.
For example, if you currently have v10 Build 02 SBN 5000 and our latest release is v10 Build 02 SBN 6500, and are not using SuperPro's 'Designer' COM library, you can accomplish this upgrade with just the patch installation. The patch installation would also work if you are upgrading to a current release marked as v10 Build 07 SBN 1200. However, if our latest release is v11 Build 02 SBN 1100 you can't use the patch install; you will need to download the full installation packet for that.

When Can I Use the Full Installation?

The full installation packet will ALWAYS work, including upgrading from one minor release to another in the same major version family. However, you MUST use the full installation packet when:

  • You install the software for the first time
  • You are upgrading from one major version to another
  • You are installing an older version (after you remove the currently installed version)
  • You need the new COM Engine features (new functions, more options etc.) included in the latest release

New Installation

When installing the software for the first time on a target PC, you will need to download the full installation packet.

Then, locate the edition of the software you own (first column in the download table) and download the full installation packet for that edition.

Upgrading

When upgrading a current installation of the software, you can avoid having to download the full installation packet, if you are updrading within the same major version family (from a lower build/special build number to a higher one); in that case you only need to download the patch installation. For all other upgrades you must download the full installation packet. If you don't know your current version numbers, see Before You Start to learn how to find them. If you are still not sure if you need the full installation packet or the patch, see Full vs Patch Installation.

Then, locate the edition of the software you own (first column in the download table) and download either the patch or the full installation packet for that edition.
Please note that when you execute a full installation on a PC that is already running a previous release, the older release will be automatically uninstalled first. You cannot run two different versions of the software on the same PC.

Downgrading

To replace a new version with an older one, you will need the full installation script of the older release. Please visit the Download Tables for Older Releases, locate your edition of the software (first column in the tables) and download the full installation for the version you want. Before you downgrade your software version, you must manually uninstall your current version as the older version's installation script will not run when a newer release is present. After the uninstall has successfully finished, proceed to install the older version.

License Renewal

To extend the license for another term, you need to obtain from Intelligen, Inc. a password. Once you have acquired the password, you need to run the 'Intelligen Key Renewal' app. This application should have been installed when your original installation was executed. If you can't find the shortcut icon to run the application, look in the installation folder of your SuperPro Designer (defaults to "C:\Program Files(x86)\Intelligen\SuperPro Designer\v{MajorVerNo}"). If you can't find the program file for this app ("IntelligenKeyRenewal.exe") you can download it from here. After the "IntelligenKeyRenewal.exe" has been downloaded, please copy it in SuperPro's installation folder and start it. Then simply follow the instructions on the screen.
