Instructions for System Administrators

Details about all the actions performed by the installation script on the target PC, can be found in the Installation Details topic of the "ReadMe" file.

There are several other topics in the "ReadMe" file that you may find useful (e.g. list of files being copied in the "Program Files" area, the databases that will be registered as ODBC System Datasoures, etc.). If you wish to browse the "ReadMe" file in its entirety then click here.

Installing the Software on Behalf of an End User Locally

Please lookup the instructions in the Guide to identify which download packet you need. Download the packet and save it in a folder at the user's PC. Proceed with the installation as if you were the end user. By default, the installation makes the program available to "All Users" on the PC and the Datasources required to be accessed by the program are registered in the "System" DSN area, so any user logged in the target PC should be able to access them. The actual database files as well as example files and a whole set of templates that may be needed during program execution are copied to the "Auxiliary Folder" which defaults to a "C:\Users\Public\Public Documents" but you can overwrite it (if needed). Make sure you specify an area that is accessible for Read-and-Write by all users who may be logged in the target PC and need to run the application. The location of the "Auxiliary Folder" is the 2nd prompt that the installation script will ask. The first, will be about the "Program Folder"; it defaults to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Intelligen\SuperPro Designer\v{majVer}" but you can overwrite it, if needed. If you run into any issues during installation or first time execution of the program please review the Common Installation Problems and Common Startup Errors topics in the "ReadMe" file.

Installing the Software on Behalf of an End User Remotely

First you must determine which download packet you need. Please view instructions in The Guide. Identify if you need the full installation packet or the patch (see Full vs Patch Installation). If you need the full installation packet download it from the table below. DO NOT USE THE LINKS in Download Tables for Latest Release. Use the links in that table only if the patch installation is sufficient. Save the downloaded file in a network drive that is accessible from the target PC(s). We'll call it "Z:"

REMOTE FULL INSTALLATION

Locate in the table below the edition of the software your organization owns (Industrial Single, Industrial Site, etc.) and download the single-file unattended installer. DO NOT USE THE LINKS in Download Tables for Latest Release. The file will be named "SuperProInstaller.EE.MM.BB.exe", where:
- "EE" depends on the edition of the software you own (Industrial Single, Industrial Site, Academic, etc.),
- "MM" is the major version number, and
- "BB" is the build number
Save the downloaded file in a network drive that is accessible to all remote locations that you will need to install the software (we'll assume "Z:")

If you are downloading the full installation script, besides the script file above, you must also download

MS-Access® 2010, 32-bit Driver Installer (for '.accdb/.mdb' db files)

If, after installation, you still have issues with database access, you will need to run this installer yourself. First you must download the driver installation program. You have two options for downloading the MS-Access 2010® driver installer:
1. From Intelligen's download center: MS-Access 2010® Driver Installer from Intelligen, or
2. From Microsfot's download center: MS-Access 2010® Driver Installer from Microsoft.
If you chose (2) above, make sure you select to download the 32-bit edition (filename 'accessdatabaseengine.exe') and then click 'Download'; do NOT download the 64-bit edition (filename 'accessdatabaseengine_X64.exe').
Do NOT attempt to install a later release of the 32-bit MS-Access driver (e.g. 2016 or 2019) esp. if you have the 64-bit version of MS-Office (later than 2016) as it may create conflict with your MS-Office installation and refuse to install.
Whether you follow (1) or (2) above, you will end up downloading the 'AccessDatabaseEngine.exe' file that you can save locally on your PC. If you plan on running the remote installation script (see above), you must copy in the same location as the "SuperProInstaller" script you downloaded earlier.
. Otherwise keep the AccessDatabaseEngine.exe in any path on your PC.
To run the installation please click on Windows Key + R (or select "Run" from the Windows prompt); in the ensuing interface click on "Browse" and select the 'AccessDatabaseEngine.exe' wherever you saved it in your local PC (let's call it 'C:\Your Path'). Then type '/quiet' at the end of the command line:

example graphic

Then click on 'Ok'. This should carry out the installation of the 2016 32-bit MS-Access driver quietly (without any prompts).
To verify that the MS-Access drivers have been properly installed, please check the list of installed programs on your PC. You should see the following entry:

example graphic

If you don't see the above entry in the list of installed programs, then your Windows environment must have rejected your attempt to install the MS-Access drivers; please consult with your IT manager on how to properly execute the installation.

Sentinel Installer Download

If your edition of the software requires a dongle (sentinel protection key) then you will need to download the single file installer for the sentinel drivers (see below). Regardless of how the downloaded file is named, you must rename it to "SentinelInstaller.exe" as it is called from the application's installer by that name. You must also keep the "SentinelInstaller.exe" in the same directory as the installation script under the Z: drive. You have two different options for downloding the sentinel installer:
1. From Intelligen's download center: Sentinel Installer from Intelligen, or
2. From the vendor's site: Sentinel Installer from Gemalto then select "Sentinel System Driver Installer for Sentinel SuperPro, UltraPro and SHK". Make sure you rename the downloaded file to "SentinelSetup.exe" and save it in the same location as the single-file installer.
If the sentinel drivers failed to be installed as part of the remote installation script, you can carry out just this task yourself. Try running their installation program alone:
SentinelSetup.exe /v /qb CONFIRMUPGRADE=TRUE REBOOT=ReallySuppress
This step may fail, as many systems will not allow you to install system drivers remotely. If that is the case, you may have to remotely log into the target PC's area (as an Administrator) and then run the "SentinelInstaller.exe".

Remote Execution of SuperPro Designer's Single-File Installer

Let's assume that you have downloaded the single-file installer program (named "SuperProInstaller" for simplicity) and saved in a network drive "Z:" accessible from all locations where you intend to install the software. If the edition of the software requires sentinel protection, you must have in the same location the "SentinelInstaller.exe" (see above on how to receive it). You now have two choices for the remote deployment:

1. Use Command-Line Deployment

The interactive installation extracts from the user the following four pieces of information:
a. Installation Folder (e.g. "C:\Program Files (x86)\Intelligen\SuperPro Designer\v14")
b. Auxiliary Folder (e.g. "C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\Intelligen\SuperPro Designer\v14")
c. Company Name (e.g. "Drug Manufacturing, Inc.")
d. User Name (e.g. "John Smith")
You can provide the desired answers directly on the execution line in order to have a completely unattended (silent) deployment. Here's the command line:
Z:/SuperProInstaller.exe /s /v"/qn INSTALLDIR=\"C:\Program Files (x86)\Simulation Tools\SuperPro Designer\v14\" DATABASEDIR=\"C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\SuperPro\v14\" COMPANYNAME=\"Drug Manufacturing, Inc.\" USERNAME=\"John Smith\"

For a complete list of all options that can be passed on the argument list of the .exe installer, please visit Argument List for InstallShield's Remote Installer from Flexera (the software vendor for InstallShield)

2. Use an Equivalent "MSI" Script for Remote Deployment

If you must install the program on multiple PCs, using a Group Policy file and remote deployment from a Windows server, then carrying out the installation from a single .msi script may be the preferred way. In that case, you should use one of many third party utilities that convert a .exe installer into a single ".msi" file, and then proceed with the remote deployment. There are several such tools available, some free-of-charge, and some for purchase:

  • EMCO Software EXE-to-MSI Converter
  • EXE to MSI Converter
  • Advanced Installer
  • QwertyLab's Exe to Msi Converter

REMOTE PATCH INSTALLATION

If you only need to install the patch (i.e. upgrading within the same major version family), then go to Download Tables for Latest Release, locate the patch install packet for the edition of the software that your organization owns and download it to a network drive / folder accessible from all target PCs. We will call it "Z:". Patch installation files are named "SPDPatch.EE.MM.BB.exe" where:
- "EE" depends on the edition of the software you own (Industrial Single, Industrial Site, Academic, etc.),
- "MM" is the major version number, and
- "BB" is the build number
The patch installation can only be applied if a previous release (in the same major family) is currently installed on the target PC. When executed, it will expand the new runtime executables (.exe and .dll files) and copy them in the location where the current release is installed. If the application is installed in the default location ("C:\Program Files (x86)\Intelligen\SuperPro Designer\v{MajVer}") then you don't need to provide any arguments when you are executing it remotely:
Z:\SPDPatch.EE.MM.BB.exe
If, however, the previous SuperPro Designer release is installed in another folder (e.g. "C:\Program Files (x86)\Apps\SuperPro"), then you must provide that folder as an argument:
Z:\SPDPatch.EE.MM.BB.exe -d"C:\Program Files (x86)\Apps\SuperPro" -s
You must, of course, have Administrative Privileges in the target PC in order for Windows to allow the copying of the new executables in the "C:\Program Files (x86)" folder.

Latest E-Book, OnLine Help Content and Examples

Periodically we update some of the support files that come with your application related to documentation and example process files. If you wish to download the latest editions of those files please use the links below. In order for some of the functionality of the software to continue to work properly it is strongly recommended that you copy those files right over the location where the original file was copied during installation. The E-Book ("EBook.pdf") and the on-line documentation file ("Designer.chm") should be copied in the Installation Folder of SuperPro Designer (defaults to "C:\ProgramFiles (x86)\Intelligen\SuperPro Designer\v{MajorVerNo}); The E-Book is an Adobe file that contains the full documetation of SuperPro Designer (incl. details for all process models used to simulate operations and/or equipment types). The "Designer.chm" contains help information content used when users invoke context-sensitive help by hitting "F1" (when selecting any item) or clicking on a "Help" button in any context (dialog or otherwise). Please note that typically the content is retrieved from the web as many topics are being updated by our support engineers as they become available (as they apply to the latest release). However, the "Designer.chm" file will be used when access to internet is not an option or when instructed by the user. A listing and brief description of all examples currently available can be found here. The example files themselves (.spf) and their documentation (*.docx) will download as a single zip file; unzip the contents and please copy the entire folder "Examples" under the Auxiliary Folder of the latest SuperPro Designer installation (defaults to "C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\Intelligen\SuperPro Designer\v{MajorVerNo}").
